THE NBA AND SHOT DISTRIBUTION
In this project, you will use systems of linear equations and basketball statistics to take a partial set of information to find additional specific details.
During the 2020–21 season2, the teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) averaged taking shots per game (the -point shots attempted plus the -point shots attempted). The teams scored an average of points per game with of those points coming from free throws. The average shooting percentages were for -point shots and for -point shots.

Letting x be the average number of -point attempts per game, write an expression to describe the total points made from -point shots.

Use the expressions from parts 1 and 2 to set up a system of linear equations: one equation to describe the number of shots taken and one equation to describe the average number of points scored. (Note: Free throws should not be included in the total number of points since we are only considering -point shots and -point shots.)

Solve the system of equations from part 3 to find the average number of -point shots attempted and the average number of -point shots attempted.
The highest scoring team in the league during the 2020–21 season averaged making shots per game and scoring points per game with of those points coming from free throws. This team averaged taking -point shots and -point shots.
