Administrator Installation Notes

CD-based Installers
-------------------
The setup found on the CDs is not an MSI installer, but can be configured to install silently.  Here's how:
1. Copy both CDs into a single folder on a network sharepoint.  When prompted that a duplicate folder name exists, permit the copy.
2. Browse to the network folder\<productcode>\Setup
3. Using Notepad, edit the setup.dat file according to your needs.  See sample below.
4. Run "<InstallationPath>\Setup.exe" /s to instal the product silently.


Sample Setup.dat layout:

Web-based Installers
--------------------
The downloads available from our website are web-based installers; they require constant access to the Internet to download the remainder of setup files needed for installation.  
During installation these setup files (*.7zip) are automatically saved to c:\Program Files\Hawkes Learning Systems\Setup in case reinstallation is required (on any computer).


Using Group Policy Objects (GPO) to install the Hawkes software
---------------------------------------------------------------
The web-based setup.exe is a wrapper for an MSI installer package. Perform the following steps to reconstruct the MSI installation from the downloaded setup files:

1. Run the setup.exe on a test computer.
2. The “Compact” install will download only the minimal files needed to run the program.  The “Complete” install contains narration and video content, pushing the download size over 1Gb.  
3. As the installation files are downloaded from the web they will be stored in the following folder:  C:\Program Files\Hawkes Learning Systems\Setup\<product name>\<InstallType>.  
4. Use WinZip or WinRAR to extract all of the files contained in  “<product>-Student-Setup.exe”.   (.MSI, .RES, .DLL)
5. Copy the files from step 3 and 4 into a folder that will be accessed by the GPO.
6. Review the ReadMe.rtf for command line parameters to customize your install.
